Description

An 18th century small silver “charka” of octagonal design with a pierced side handle and applied foot. The unusual chased decoration depicts ghostly scenes of phantoms swirling around naked maidens on a foggy or flame background.

Contains 70ml.
Height 4.7cm, 1.85ins. Spread 8cm, 3.15ins. Width 6cm, 2.3ins.

Literature. The Russian ‘charka’ is a vodka or tot cup, a traditional drinking vessel used in Russian communal life for centuries. The charka represents the 16th century vodka measure of 143.5 millilitres.
