A rare early antique silver snuff box from the provincial city of Norwich. Attractive rectangular octagonal form with hinged lid hand engraved with a scroll design and initials “JL”. Excellent silver patina. Original gilt interior with a deep colour. Weight 63 grams, 2 troy ounces. Height 1,1 cms. Top 7.25 x 5.25 cms. Marked inside the base with initials for the Norwich lady silversmith Elizabeth Haslewood. Makers mark only, circa 1690.

A late 17th century antique sterling silver muffineer in the traditional lighthouse design with a bayonet fitting, so typical of these very early casters. This lovely castor is of heavy quality and feels good in the hand. The base is plain styled with fluted borders, the top is simply pierced, the holes are quite large as crushed loaf sugar was still in use at this early date. Uninscribed. Weight 310 grams, 9.9 troy ounces. Height 20 cm. Diameter of base 8.5 cm. London 1690. Makers mark for Thomas Brydon (overstruck) – see Jacksons page 148, bottom mark.

A delightful little collector’s piece. A charming little antique silver cup with two side handles and the tulip decoration typical of the William & Mary period. The body has a border of hand chased fish scale and impressed tulip ornament, the base also has the tulip design within a prick dot circle. This is an exact copy of a full size original. A rare early English silver chamber candlestick (also known as a go to bed) with the plain styling and hand beaten silver you’d expect from this date. It has a large drip pan and flat tongue shaped handle. The candle socket has 4 circular holes to enable the stub of the candle to be levered out. A nice feature is the shaped handle decoration and heart shaped hole for hanging when not in use. Hand engraved to the handle is an armorial within a decorative cartouche and on the reverse side there are two sets of prick initials and dates. “I.B 1694” and “D.W June 23^rd 1693”. Weight 147 grams, 4.7 troy ounces. Diameter 12.9cm. Length 22.5cm. English Sterling silver. Prick marks Charles II to William and Mary date. Circa 1693. No hallmarks. The earliest prick date can be read as either 1664 or 1694 – see photos. In our opinion this is 1664. Makers mark “W.W” unidentified.

A rare item of English provincial silver from Hull in the North of England. An antique silver tumbler cup of simple plain design. Good gauge silver and excellent patina. The round and weighted base allows the cup to stay upright when knocked from side to side. This example, typical of Hull silver tumblers, has a flatter base than those made in London.
