Description

Channel Islands silver. A rare antique sterling silver tankard from the island of Jersey. Broad heavy design with the distinctive leaf motif on the handle, typical of Channel Islands silver of this period. Weight 440 grams, 14.1 troy ounces. Underneath is a presentation inscription (later in date) to "George Du Heaume ne 11 Decembre 1806". Contains 1 pint. Height 12 cms. Diameter of top 9 cms. Stamped underneath with the initials TM for Thomas Mauger of Jersey. Circa 1750.

Biography

Thomas David Mauger

Thomas Mauger (father of George) married Marie Le Dain. Their son George was baptised on 12th February 1750. He became a most prolific silversmith in Jersey.

Condition

This solid silver mug is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. Excellent patina. Uninscribed. Stamped underneath with makers initials only. A few black spots inside at the bottom. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
