Description

A full set of sterling silver cutlery for 12 people in a good quality pattern with shaped decorative handles. Total 60 pieces. Complete with small ladles and condiment spoons. All pieces with an engraved initial "F" except sauce ladles, condiment spoons and sugar tongs. Weight 3856 grams, 124 troy ounces. All pieces matching London 1838/9, maker Samuel Hayne & Dudley Cater.

Biography

Samuel Hayne & Dudley Cater

Samuel Hayne, apprenticed to Thomas Wallis as goldsmith January 1804, first mark entered as plateworker, in partnership with brother Jonathan Hayne, address 16 Red Lion St, Clerkenwell in July 1836.


Dudley Cater, apprenticed to Jonathan Hayne of Red Lion St, Clerkenwell in March 1823, first mark entered as plateworker, in partnership with Samuel Hayne, July 1836. Died circa 1881-85.

Condition

This complete set of sterling silver flatware is in excellent condition with no damage or restoration. All pieces have matching English silver hallmarks for London 1838, maker Samuel Hayne & Dudley Carter (sauce ladles London 1839). The fork prongs are all very usable but a bit worn. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
