A good antique sterling silver mug of baluster form with a cast scroll and acanthus leaf handle. Classic plain style. To the front there is a hand engraved monogram of entwined initials in old fashioned script. Contains 450 ml. Weight 331 grams, 10.6 troy ounces. Height 12.5 cms. Spread 12 cms. Diameter 8 cms (top), 8.5 cms (base). London 1772. Maker Francis Crump.
Francis Crump, apprenticed to Gabriel Sleath 1726, free 1741. 1st mark entered as largeworker 1741. 2nd and 3rd marks 1745/51. 4th mark, in oartnership with Gabriel Sleath1753. 5th mark alone 1756. 6th mark 1761. Married Sarah Bullbeck 1760, they had 4 children.
This useful silver tankard is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. The silver marks are crisp and easy to read. The engraving is not worn. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
