A stylish antique silver mounted wine jug with a segmented crystal body. The smart, plain stylish features include a straight box spout and a geometric handle.

Marks. Stamped with a full set of English silver hallmarks on the mount and inside the lid, the marks are matching, crisp and clear.

Biography

John Grinsell & Sons

John Grinsell, a Birmingham manufacturer, the business was originally established before 1864 as Grinsell & Bourne.
The partnership was dissolved (1871) and John Grinsell started a new business with his sons (Thomas Bywater Grinsell, James Erazmus Grinsell, Lorenzo Grinsell and Joseph Charles Grinsell) as John Grinsell & Sons and London and Glasgow showrooms were opened.
In 1905c. the firm became John Grinsell & Sons Ltd and later purchased by Barker Ellis & Co Ltd.
The trade mark "Cupid standing on a scroll" was registered in 1879. The firm was specialized in the manufacture of silver-mounted glass, stoneware and ceramic items.

Condition

This antique silver wine jug is in very good condition. The glass is in good order, just a couple of tiny nicks underneath.
