A super quality and large sterling silver octagonal snuff box of good proportions and having simple elegant styling. The top has a bright cut decorated border and long flush hinge.

Literature: Grinding tobacco leaves in order to inhale the powder dates from the mid 17th century in Europe however the first snuff boxes don't seem to have appeared until the reign of William III circa 1695.
This interesting box is in very good condition. Stamped on both pieces with English silver hallmarks. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
