Description

An exceptional quality antique sterling silver coffee pot of baluster shape on pedestal foot. Very beautifully decorated with crisply chased scrolls, flowers, leaves and hatching. On top there is a pretty cast flower finial. Contains 900 ml. Weight 944 grams, 30.3 troy ounces. Height 25 cms. Spread 21 cms. London 1742. Maker Louis Dupont.


Biography

Louis Dupont

Louis Dupont, London silversmith, no record of apprenticeship or freedom. Probably Hugeunot and that his father was Pierre du Pont, goldsmith at Poitiers in Poitou. First mark entered a largeworker 1736, second mark 1739. Dupont’s son Stephen was apprenticed to Samuel Courtauld 1753. Another son Oliver John was apprenticed to Isaac Chartier 1754.

Condition

This handsome antique silver pot is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. The silver marks can be clearly read however the date letter is a bit rubbed. The deep chasing is original and in fine condition. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
