    9037 Antique Silver Salts – Novelty Mermaid

    A fine quality set of three antique sterling silver salt cellars modelled as a mermaid draped in a fishing net and holding a giant sea shell. Heavy cast silver. Original gilt finish. Hand engraved inside the bowl of the salt is a stylistic monogram below a ducal coronet. Total weight 1039 grams, 33.4 troy ounces. Height 5.5cm. Width 9.5cm. Depth 9cm. One is made by Robert Garrard, London 1838. The other pair, an identical copy, is by Henry William Curry, London 1872.

    9948 Antique Silver Cowrie Shell Snuff Box

    Of nautical interest. A charming antique silver mounted cowrie shell snuff box with flush hinged cover, decorated with bright cut engraving and engraved dedication ” P. Ferguson 1856″. Particularly nice is the unusual carved shell decoration featuring a sailing ship with full rigging and the Forget me Not inscription. Length 8cm. Width 5.8cm. Height 4cm. The silver is unmarked as is common with these boxes. Probably Scottish. Circa 1856.

    7776 Antique German Silver Neff Sailing Ship

    This is a superb solid silver galleon ship, known as a Nef), with a tall mast having multi section sails, a manned crows nest and rigging. The deck is beautifully modelled with people and equipment – to the rear the captain is steering the ship’s wheel with a lantern behind him, and on the prow a sailor is standing next to the ships cannon, the anchor hangs below. Around the edge of the deck there is a pierced gallery decorated with cherubs and flowers.

    The top section of the Neff can be removed from the hull. The hull of the ship is finely chased with cherubs and leaves, flowers and scrolls and the interior is gilded. The ship stands on four decorative wheels.

    Weight 577 grams, 18.5 troy ounces. Height 24.5 cms. Spread 25 cms. Top of the hull measures 18 x 6 cms. The hull has a set of German hallmarks with maker’s mark for Neresheimer. The bottom edge of the top section has the silver grade “13”. Circa 1900.

    8748 Antique Silver Plated and Wood Drinks Bucket

    A fantastic decorator’s item. This stylish bar set in the form of a ship’s bucket has a coopered body made of solid wood panels held together with silver plated metal bands and has a chunky rope handle. Holds up to 3 standard wine bottles. The multi-purpose bottom section swivels out and can be used to contain bar items, bottle openers, cigars, playing cards etc. Above the swivel drawer, engraved to the silver plated band, are the British patent numbers “Rd90495 DEPOSE Rd90496”. Height 25.5 cms. Diameter 21 cms. Made in England. Circa 1910.

    8599 Antique German Silver Nef Sailing Ship

    A superb sterling silver galleon ship, known as a Nef, intricately modelled with 2 tall masts having multi section sails and long boom, manned crows nests, flags and rigging. Each mast has a man climbing up a tall ladder. On the upper deck the helmsman is steering the ship while the other sailors carry out their duties. A central staircase connects the two decks. Around the edge is a decorative pierced gallery and below this, the port holes with their cannons ready for battle. There is a large armorial plaque to the rear of the hull with the motto “Honi soit qui mal y pense”.
    Excellent large size and weight. Weight 3350 grams, 107 troy ounces. Height 67 cms. Spread 62 cms. Height 67 cms. Spread 62 cms. The top of the hull measures – length 31.5cm x width 14.3 cm (at the widest point).The nef has multiple silver stamps including London import marks, on the bottom edge of the top section and the body of the hull, for 1913. Importer Berthold Muller.
    The top section of the Neff can be removed from the hull. The hull of the ship is realistically engraved with timber effect planks and graining; the interior is gilded, the rudder is in the form of a dolphin, the anchor is attached by a chain. The ship has 10 cannons and stands on four decorative wheels.

    8073 Antique Spanish Silver Neff Sailing Ship

    This is a superb solid silver galleon ship, known as a Nef, with 3 tall masts having multi section sails, manned crows nests, flags and rigging. Many parts of the ship are gilded. Each mast has a man climbing up a tall ladder. The captain is standing on the deck behind the rear mast. Around the edge of the deck there is a gallery with port holes.

    The top section of the Neff can be removed from the hull and is held in position by 2 small clips. The hull of the ship is finely embossed with cherubs and scrolls and the interior is gilded. The ship has 8 cannons and stands on four decorative wheels.

    Weight 1187 grams, 38.1 troy ounces. Height 38.5 cms. Spread 34.5 cms. Top of the hull measures 27.5 x 12 cms. The rudder is stamped with Spanish silver marks, the assay town and pentagram quality mark. The silver grade is “915”. Circa 1930.
