A rare antique silver octofoil salver with a scalloped border and standing on 3 curved panelled feet. Very plain style. This piece is made of heavy gauge silver and has a good weight. The patina is excellent. Hand engraved to the centre is a contemporary armorial within a decorative cartouche. Weight 734 grams, 23.6 troy ounces. Diameter 265 cms. Height 5.5 cms. Dublin circa 1710. Maker Thomas Bolton (or Boulton), Dublin silversmith, working circa 1710. These 8 sided salvers generally date between 1710 and 1730 and are extremely sought after.
Condition
A fine early Irish antique silver salver in very good condition with no damage or repair. Thick gauge silver. Excellent antique colour. Contemporary engraved arms. Struck 3 times with makers mark only. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.

Maker: Thomas Bolton
Thomas Bolton (1658-1736), Dublin silversmith, who rose to become Assay Master and subsequently Lord Mayor of Dublin but who later died in poverty. He is generally considered as Dublin’s finest silversmith and many of his pieces are marked with just his makers mark.
