    9646 Antique Enamel Opera Glasses

    Sold

    A beautiful pair of antique opera glasses made of gilt brass metal and enamel. The binocular tops and extension knob are made of real mother of pearl. The pink enamel barrels are covered in gilt stars and have beaded cartouches and borders containing hand painted sprays of multi coloured flowers. The underside is inscribed “REG Armstrong 14.August 1884”. Measures – width 10.4 cm, closed height 6.3 cm, extended height 8.5 cm. Probably French. Circa 1884. Retailer’s mark Sharman D Neill, Belfast.

    A rare antique silver dish fashioned as a white damask tablecloth draped over a gilt wickerwork basket. The quality of the workmanship is outstanding. Weight 744 grams, 23.9 troy ounces.     9832 Victorian Silver Armada Jug

    A magnificent large antique sterling silver wine jug in the traditional form of an Armada jug. Very elegant design on a pedestal foot. Suitable for both hot and cold drinks. The hinged lid, with ornate flower and scroll finial, opens by squeezing the handle mechanism. Beautifully chased with flowers, scrolls and leaves, the jug has a cartouche to both sides (uninscribed). The front has an applied animals head and to either side of each cartouche there is a winged classical figure with arms extended. Weight 943 grams, 30.3 troy ounces. Height 31.5cm. Spread 14.5cm.     8613 Queen Anne Style Silver Bowl

    A handsome antique sterling bowl in the early 18th century style with lions mask side handles, typical ribbed body decoration and decorative cartouches. The shaped rim was monteith style which was originally used to hold stem glasses, punch ladle and lemon squeezer (the top of an original monteith is also detachable). To the front there is an engraved crest of a standing cat with the motto “Touch Not the Cat Bot a Glove”*. To the front there is a presentation inscription**. Weight of silver 1321 grams, 42.4 troy ounces. Height 20 cms, diameter 25 cms. London 1886. Maker Sibray Hall & Co.

    A large antique sterling silver tray of oval form with inset carrying handles. The decorative gallery is attractively pierced with a crisscross design. The underside has a hardwood base making the tray very strong. No inscription. Weight including wood 3364 grams, 108.1 troy ounces. Length 58 cms. Width 39 cms. Marked to the edge of the base rim with full English silver hallmarks for London 1886. Makers mark partially stamped, probably Joseph Angell.

    A decorative antique sterling silver wine jug of tall slender form. The crystal body is cut in the heavy quality Victorian hob nail design. The silver mount has grape vine detail entwined around the neck, the lid finial in the form of a bunch of grapes, the handle formed realistically as a branch with bark engraving and leaves. This attractive black and white checked niello decoration originated from Russia in the 10th century. Length 12.3 cms. Spread across the lenses 10 cms. Diameter of lense frame 4 cms.     A late 19th century Chinese export silver rose water sprinkler. The lower body and foot are finely chased with repousse floral decoration, and the tall slender top has a cast and applied bird with the little sprinkler holes. Weight 70 grams, 2.2 troy ounces.     8571 Victorian 4 piece Silver Tea Set in the style of Edward Farrell

    An outstanding quality antique sterling silver tea service of gourd shape, depicting Teniers style Dutch tavern scenes. The sides are deeply chased in relief, the handles cast as drunken peasants perched on tree branches, the teapot and coffee pot with ivory insulators and drunken figure finials, original pale gilt interiors. The drunken revellers are drinking, playing music, playing cards, womanising; there is a mother and child, even a giant dog. Every scene is different. The teapot and milk jug a have Bacchus face mask mounted spout. This very heavy set weighs 4,024 grams, 129.3 troy ounces. Teapot height 19.5 cms, spread 26 cms. Coffee pot height 26 cms, spread 25 cms. London 1890. Maker John Aldwinckle & Thomas Slater.

    A handsome pair of antique 6 branch candelabra in silver plate. Very tall leaf and scroll motif decorated columns on shaped bases; excellent definition. The candles sconces are detachable and the tops can be removed to use the bases as candlesticks. The middle sconce contains a candle snuffer. Height – total 69 cms, candlesticks 39 cms.     A magnificent antique silver centrepiece of oval form supported by 4 large dolphins. The quality of this piece is excellent. The base has a shaped band of embossed gadroon decoration and the feet are in the form of gush of water ejected from the dophin’s mouth. On top there is a fine quality cut glass bowl. Weight of silver 1528 grams, 49.1 troy ounces. Total height 18 cms. Base 34 x 26.5 cms. Glass bowl 31.5 x 23 cms. German silver stamps crown and moon. Silver fineness “800”*. Circa 1890.

    A 19th century Russian (Georgia) silver filigree casket of rectangular form and raised on four scroll feet. The quality of the filigree work is exquisite. The hinged lid with domed centre has an applied flower to each corner and to the centre. There is a folding catch to the front and swing handles either side. Weight 234 grams, 7.5 troy oz. Length 13.5 cm. Width 8.5 cm. height 8.5 cm. Russian silver stamps for Tbilissi, Georgia 1882-1898. 84 zolotnik silver grade*. Maker’s mark KC (KS).

His richly decorated jacket and waistcoat sit over a long skirt which is the inverted drinking cup. Excellent quality and good weight. Parcel gilt. Weight 483 grams, 15.5 troy ounces. Height 31.5 cm. Stamped on the bottom of the skirt with German silver marks. Circa 1890.

    An antique silver model of a windmill mounted on a wine cup. Hand engraved. Beautifully constructed with multiple moving parts. The windmill house is reached by a staircase with two sculptured figures climbing up, on one side there is a man peeping out of a small window. The revolving windmill sails connect to the clock hands on the other side and both move together. The roof is mounted with a revolving flag, a tiny bird and a sculptured finial. There is a horn which is non-functional. Weight 203 grams, 6.5 troy ounces. Height 22.5 cm. Diameter of cup 8.5 cm. Fully stamped with Dutch silver marks fpr Amsterdam. Circa 1890.

Naturalistic bark handles and lots of quirky detail like the little man on top of the shell feet, the tray handle and the mustard top.
