A rare early English silver castor with octagonal form. The top has decorative piercing. Excellent quality and patina. Weight 161 grams, 5.1 troy ounces. Height 15 cms. Diameter of base 5 cms. Sterling silver. London 1725. Maker Thomas Bamford.
Condition
This lovely silver shaker is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. Fully matching. The base is fully stamped with English silver hallmarks, the top has the makers mark and lion stamp. Excellent quality and patina. The top fits well and the caster stands steady. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.

Maker: Thomas Bamford
Thomas Bamford was a specialist caster maker whose master was Charles Adam, and his apprentice was Samuel Wood. The date of his freedom is not recorded, however, he entered 2 largeworker marks on 5th January 1720 and third (sterling) mark, 27th June 1720.
