Silver Biscuit Boxes are practical metal containers to keep biscuits and cookies fresh. In the late 19th and early 20th century they were produced in many attractive designs such as the novelty book or military drum and/or as part of an extensive matching tea and coffee service.
Folding Biscuit Boxes are popularly used nowadays to serve muffins and scones. Usually shell shaped, they can have either two or three fold-out sections. Traditionally these boxes were kept by the fire to warm the biscuits. They usually have pretty pierced grills to keep the biscuits in place which can be lifted to access the contents.

    A decorative version of the antique silver plated folding biscuit box. It opens to reveal a stunning gilt interior. Attractive shell shape with a decorative cast border frame. The pierced grills keep the biscuits in place and can be lifted to access the contents. Silver plated. Height 24.5 cms. Width 21.5 cms. Underneath there is the unicorn mark for the Cheltenham and Company Ltd, Sheffield, UK. Silver plate on copper. Circa 1875.

    A charming antique silver porringer with simple strapwork side handles. Typical decoration of the period with half ribbed embossed body and coopered ring of gadrooning. There are simple bands of bright cut engraving and to the front a large decorative cartouche containing owner’s initials. Britannia standard silver. Excellent patina. Weight 113 grams, 3.6 troy ounces. Height 7.4 cms. Spread 15 cms. Diameter 8.5 cms. London 1714. Maker William Fleming. With a presentation box.

    A good size sterling silver bowl and cover in the late 17th century chinoiserie style. Engraved with a charming decoration of birds and foliage. Good gauge silver. Weight 569 grams, 18.2 troy ounces. Height 15 cm (to top of finial), 10.5 (top of body). Spread across handles 19.5 cm. Diameter of bowl 12.7 cms. Both pieces hallmarked London 1912. Maker Robert Frederick Fox.

    A stunning pair of antique wall mirrors of tall shaped form (girandoles), each mounted with two pairs of candle sconces. Decorated in the flamboyant rococo style, the scrolling high relief ornament has fretwork, sea foam and stalactites. Mounted at the top is a winged cherub and below the mirror is a figural plaque. Height 65 cm. Width 34 cm. Mirror height 30 cm, width 18 cm. Probably French. Circa 1900.
