Description
A rare antique solid silver chalice dating to circa 1700. Over 300 years old and in very good condition. Good original gilt finish. The decorative form is typical of German drinking cups of this period, the cup could also possibly be Italian. The shaped globular bowl and foot have embossed decoration with face masks and fruit, the top has a hand chased scroll border, and the centre column is mounted with 3 cast scrollwork ornaments with figureheads.
Contains 200 ml.
Weight 365 grams, 11.7 troy ounces.
Height 20 cms. Diameter – top 6.5 cms, foot 9 cms.
Marked on the edge of the foot rim with makers mark “PS” for Philipp Stenglin, town mark and assay scrape.

Marks. Stamped with continental silver marks on the foot rim, the silver grade will probably be a bit lower than sterling (925).
Condition
This lovely antique wine cup is in very good condition. It still has good definition, the gilding has very little wear. The chalice has been tested for water retention and does not leak.
