Description
An attractive art deco clock with sterling silver body and pink enamelled front decoration. Large size. The French movement has an integral winder and fast/slow regulator. With presentation inscription.
Height 18 cm. Base width 12.5 cm. Spread across the feet 15×8.5 cm.
Birmingham 1930.
Maker Walker & Hall.
Inscription reads “William Joseph Causton. In remembrance of his godfather Wiliam James Bowker. (Brigadier General CVS DSC) Nov 1931”.
Literature. Brig-General William James Bowker CMG, DSO. Lieutenant Colonel of The Somerset Light Infantry (Prince Albert’s). Son of Frederick and Julia Ann Hardy Bowker. Served in Niger Territories 1898-9, Illah and Siama Expeditions. South Africa 1899-1902. Actions of Spion Kop; Vaall Kranz, Tugela Heights and Relief of Ladysmith Tientsin 1912. Great War 1914-1918 Gallipoli, Egypt, Palestine, France and Archangel. Died 9 November 1931 aged 62.
Condition
The clock is in very good condition. Stamped on the side with a full set of English silver hallmarks. The clock movement has not been refurbished but it ticks well and keeps good time. The enamel is in very good order with no visible damage.. The dial is in good order. The silver has a small dink on the top. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.

Walker & Hall. George Walker started this business in 1845 when he secured the royalty for electroplating at Sheffield. He was joined by Henry Hall and the business became Walker & Hall in 1853 with a factory at Howard Street, Sheffield and showrooms at 45 Holborn Viaduct, London. Branches were later opened throughout Great Britain and worldwide. Walker & Hall became a limited liability company Walker & Hall Ltd in 1920. In 1963 became British Silverware Ltd amalgamating with Mappin & Webb and Elkington & Co. Walker and Hall Sheffield were primarily Sheffield Makers, but items with Birmingham, London and Chester Assay Marks can also be found.
