Description
An antique tortoiseshell box of circular bombe form inlaid overall with gold pique dot work. The cover and base are overlaid with solid gold cut work ornament of classical figures and motifs.
Diameter 6 cm. Height 3.1 cm.
Circa 1740.
Probably English.
Unmarked gold.
Condition
The box is generally in very good order with some signs of wear. The hinge functions well and the box closes tightly. The gold centre overlay panel is slightly raised in the centre and some of the gold pique dots are missing. The tortoiseshell has a few tiny chips by the catch and a small fault near the hinge. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
