Description
An unusual mid 18th century antique German writing set modelled as 3 fruits sitting on vine leaf. It comprises a pomegranate inkwell and cover, an apple pounce pot, and the pear shaped bell acts as the cover of the nib box. Rising from the centre is a tall naturalistic cast silver taperstick with leafy drip pan. Excellent weight and quality modelling.
Weight 819g, 26.3 troy oz.
Height 15.2cm. Base 21.5cm x 19.5cm.

Maker Johann Jakob Adam.
Marks. Stamped with Augsburg date letter “R” and maker’s mark on the candlestick drip pan, leaf stand and the bell.
Provenance. Sold by the heirs of Margarete Oppenheim, Berlin in Sotheby’s London 4th December 2012.
Condition
This charming desk set is in very good condition. All pieces are original and fully functional. Shows minor wear commensurate with age. The inkpot still has traces of ink inside.
