A handsome antique sterling silver cup with matching cover and wooden stand. Bright original gilt interior to cup and cover. The decoration is particularly good with deep relief chased flowers, leaves and scrolls and there’s a large cartouche to front and back with a crest and a military inscription from the Bath Troop N.S.Y.C 1893. Weight 1216 grams, 39 troy ounces. Height 40 cms , 46 cms (with plinth). Spread across handles 26 cms. Diameter 16 cms. London 1866. Maker Richard & Brown.

This lovely cup is in excellent condition with no damage or restoration. Both cup and cover have matching silver marks. The decoration is still sharp. The gilding is bright. The silver is good gauge. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.

Maker: Edward Charles Brown

Edward Charles Brown, apprenticed to George J Richards 1845, free 1852. Another apprentice, William Comyns, was also freed in 1852. Brown became a partner in George Richards' business in 1857 trading as Richards & Brown. Brown continued with this business name after Richards’ retirement in 1867 until Brown retired at the end of 1882. He died 1883.
