A late-17th/early-18th century Danish silver peg tankard of plain cylindrical form raised on three stylish pomegranate ball feet. Large size and heavy weight. The domed cover is deeply embossed with a decorative border of foliate scrolls around a central hand engraved armorial dated 1701, the scroll handle has a thumb piece modelled as a rampant lion holding a large ball. Contains 2000ml. Weight 1443gms, 46.4 troy oz. Height 22.5cm (9ins). Diameter of top 15 cms (6 ins). Marked underneath with the initials “CK” for Christian Knudsen, Denmark, active 1698-1718.
