Alexander Rood, London silversmith, apprenticed to plateworker John Ruslen 1669, free 1676. Livery 1687. Assistant 1704. Throughout his busy career he bound 14 apprentices, another being turned over to him, and built up a significant retail trade.
David Mitchell illustrates 3 marks, probably by Alexander Rood, all of “AR” in varying shaped shields. The Pickering version of Jackson’s Hallmarks attributes a “R” in script with a pellet below as possibly that of Alexander Rood, however David Mitchell has reinterpreted this as “IR” for John Richardson.
