A very rare example of a novelty silver pepper pot in the form of a child’s pull along toy. A very charming piece of collectors silver and fully functional. The pepperette is filled with pepper by removing the head. The pepper is poured from the chest of the horse. Even the wheels turn. The head and saddle are engraved with prick dots. Weight 21 grams. A fine pair of French silver table ornaments modelled as game birds with articulated wings. High grade 950 silver (purer than 925 sterling silver). Large size and excellent weight. These models are very realistic and have fine chased detail. Weight 1443 grams, 46.3 troy ounces. Male bird height 19 cms, length 39 cms. Female bird 18.5 cms, length 40 cms. An early English antique sterling silver beaker of plain tapering design with simple foot wires. Dating from the late 1600’s. Charmingly flat chased with an exuberant scene of exotic birds and foliage in the Chinese style known as “chinoiserie”. To the front there are hand engraved initials “MFD” and the date 1684 and to the reverse are the prick engraved initials “CIE”. Excellent patina and hand beaten finish. Contains 290 ml. Weight 99 grams, 3.1 troy ounces. Height 9.2cm. Diameter 8cm. London 1683. Maker John Duck, well known for his fine period beakers.
