Gebruder Dingeldein
Gebruder Dingeldein (Dingeldein Brothers), Hanau in Germany.
Founded in 1868 by brothers Friedrich Otto (c. 1838-1901) and Freidrich Wilhelm (c. 1838-1910). Friedrich Otto’s son August Ernst Dingeldein (1874-1962) succeeded, and married Margarethe Kurz (1876-1947), the daughter of Karl Kurz (1851-1936), and the Dingeldein and Kurz companies merged in 1911. He opened a New York showroom with sons Karl August (1901-1965) and Otto Friedrich (1906-1991) Dingeldein, who moved to America permanently in 1927, and became prominent silversmiths in New Orleans, Louisiana and Cape Girardeau, Missouri, respectively.

An excellent quality novelty silver antique fish with red glass eyes. Beautifully articulated. The fish opens into a box at the neck, and the mouth opens into a second smaller box. Large size and graceful style with naturalistic engraved detail and scales. The bottom fins serve also as stand supports. Weight 262 grams, 8.4 troy ounces. Length 37.5cm. Continental silver marks for Hanau, Germany. Maker Gebruder Dingeldein. Circa 1910.
