James Young, apprenticed to John Muns 1749, freedom unrecorded. 1st mark entered as smallworker 1760, 2nd and 3rd marks in partnership with Orlando Jackson 1774. Report List 1773. 4th mark alone 1775. His son James was apprenticed to William Peaston 1778 and turned over to his father 1779. Jackson records his work as of elegant neo-Classical design and fine finish, particularly his epergnes.

A rare pair of antique sterling silver serving plates of octagonal form. Elegant plain design and gadroon borders. Each has a coat of arms with the motto “Altiora in Votis” – “Aim High” hand engraved to the top rim and an ornate crest of a squirrel to the bottom rim. Weight 2025 grams, 65,1 troy ounces. A handsome antique sterling silver serving platter of oval form with a shaped gadroon edge. Large size and very heavy quality. On the top edge there is a hand engraved crest of an arm holding an arrow topped by the motto “Salvet Me Deus”. Weight 2633 grams, 84.6 troy ounces. Top measures 53.5 x 38 cm. London 1776. Maker James Young, whose work is described by Grimwade as being of elegant neoclassical design and fine finish.

A handsome antique sterling silver soup tureen in the Adam style. Classic boat shape with gadroon borders, half fluting and an imposing crown finial. To both sides there is a fine hand engraved armorial topped by a large crown (same as the lid finial). To the lid there is a hand engraved double lion crest, also topped by the family crown. The motto ‘Fama Semper Vivet’ means ‘May His Fame last Forever’. Weight 2680 grams, 86 troy ounces. Height 26 cms. Spread across the handles 44 cms. Width 33.5 cms. Depth 21 cms. London 1791. An excellent quality antique silver coffee pot with plain baluster shape and bead borders. Graceful shaped spout and carved wooden handle. This pot is beautifully hand chased with flowers and foliate scrolls, the quality of the workmanship is further evident from the inside. Engraved to the front with a crest and motto.
