John Samuel Hunt

John Samuel Hunt, nephew of Paul Storr, worked for Storr for many years as a Chaser. In 1826 Hunt became a partner in of the well known firm of Storr & Mortimer. Following Paul Storr’s retirement in December 1838, the business became Mortimer & Hunt, the partners being John Mortimer, John Samuel Hunt, and his son, John Hunt.
When John Mortimer retired in December 1843, John Samuel Hunt and John Hunt entered into partnership with Robert Roskell and Charles Frederick Hancock, and the business name changed to Hunt & Roskell. In January 1849, Charles Frederick Hancock left the partnership to start his own business.
Hunt & Roskell was later sold to J.W. Benson in 1899, and after WWII it became part of Mappin & Webb, who in turn were acquired by Asprey & Co. in 1990.

    A magnificent quality piece of novelty silver. An antique sterling silver table salt in the form of a stag lying on a rocky base and flanked by 2 gilded shells. Heavy cast silver. The modelling is superb. Weight 631 grams, 20.2 troy ounces. Height 10 cms. Width 18 cms. London 1846. Maker John Samuel Hunt, nephew of Paul Storr.
