Nathaniel Mills
Nathaniel Mills, jeweller, founded this well known Birmingham business particularly known for castle top boxes. His son Nathaniel Mills II (1784-1843), entered his first mark in 1803 with Langston. Later marks alone in 1825 onwards. After Nathaniel Mills II death in 1843 his family continued to run the business as Nathaniel Mills & Sons, changing to Mills & Owen in 1854, and more latterly as William Mills.

An excellent quality antique sterling silver snuff box of rectangular form with cushion sides. The top has a cast silver border with crisp vine leaf decoration and centre engraved with a street scene (possibly University College, Oxford). The base is engine turned. The interior has the original bright gilding. Top measures 9×6 cms. Height 2.2 cms. Weight 159 grams, 5.1 troy ounces. Birmingham 1849. Maker Nathaniel Mills.
