The Goldsmiths Alliance
Goldsmiths’ Alliance Ltd, formed in 1866, originated as the company started by Adey Bellamy Savory in 1812, who traded as goldsmith, foreign coin dealer and spoon and fork manufacturer. His sons Joseph Savory and Albert Savory entered the business in 1833 and the business expanded to manufactory of gold, silver, jewellery, electro and Sheffield plate, and also watches and clocks. Between 1855 and 1865 the company used the mark of William Smily and from 1865 to 1879 the mark of Samuel Smily. In 1893 the firm went voluntarily out of business and was taken over by the Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Co Ltd.

A lovely little antique sterling silver teapot with hinged lid and flower finial. Nice small size. Circular ribbed form and hand engraved deep borders with scroll decoration. To the front there is a hand engraved crest of a bird above the motto “mea gloria fides” meaning “our faith in glory”. Contains 650 ml. Weight 421 grams, 13.5 troy ounces. Height 12 cms (to top of handle). Spread 19.5 cms. Marked underneath for London 1865. Maker Goldsmith Alliance.
