Description

An unusual sterling silver goblet with a globular bowl raised on a tall slender column. Attractive embossed decoration of a dragon curled around the outside.

Weight 201 grams, 6.4 troy ounces.
Height 17 cm. Diameter of top 5.25 cm.
Stamped underneath with Chinese silver marks for Luen Wo, Shanghai. The artisan workshop mark is YI AN 饴安
Circa 1900.

Maker: Luen Wo

Luen Wo, retail silversmith based in Shanghai, who in addition traded in jewellery, diamonds and embroideries. He produced very high quality work. His items often have the mark of the artisan who produced the piece. This firm produced items mainly in the traditional Chinese style, with classical motifs such as bamboo leaves, prunus blossoms, chrysanthemums and dragons. Their output being mainly goblets but also trays and presentation cups.
