Description

A 16th century style silver church reliquary (often called a philatory when transparent) of tall slim design with an oval shaped rock crystal container. With decorative borders and interesting applied mounts of bears, lady’s head masks and cherubs. Height 26.5 cms. Diameter 8.25 cms (top), 10.75 cms (base). Marked with continental silver stamps (indistinct) to the top and underneath. Probably Nuremberg, Germany. Circa 1880.

This excellent renaissance style philatory is in excellent condition with no sign or damage or repair. The marks are crisp but indistinct. There was probably a top originally. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
