Description

An elegant pair of antique opera glasses with extending lorgnette handle. Made of gilt brass metal with real mother of pearl binocular tops and handle, the body and handle mounts with pretty yellow enamel decoration. Small size.

Measures – width 9.2 cm, closed height 4.2 cm, extended height 5.8 cm. Spread with handle extended 22 cm.

Literature. Guilloché (or Guilloche) engraving is a decorative technique in which an intricate repetitive pattern or design is mechanically engraved into an underlying material with fine detail. This engine turning decoration is called guilloché in French, after the French engineer “Guillot” who invented the machine to carry out this kind of engraving (the rose machine).
