A handsome antique sterling silver tankard of good size and weight. Plain baluster shape, almost straight sided, with a shaped handle. Excellent colour and lovely hand hammered finish. To the front there is a large contemporary hand engraved armorial within a decorative cartouche. Contains 450 ml. Weight 305 grams, 9.8 troy ounces. Height 10.75 cms (to top of thumb piece). This early English silver mug is in very good condition. No damage or restoration. Excellent colour. Good weight. The hand engraved armorial and cartouche are contemporary and still crisp. There is a small dink to the top edge of the mug and a mark on the inside where the handle is pushed in a little. The silver marks are too faint to photograph well. We can make out the lion and date letter, the leopards head is probably inside the shield next to the makers mark. It's likely that these marks have been badly struck rather than rubbed because the makers mark, owner's initials and scratch weight are all still perfectly clear. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
