Description

An early English sterling silver waiter of square form with a Bath border. Standing on 4 very charming spade feet. Small size. To the centre there is a chased decorative border enclosing a hand engraved armorial with motto. Weight 252 grams, 8.1 troy ounces. Diameter 16 cms. Height 2 cms. London 1726. Maker John Tuite, specialist salver maker, with his distinctive “ewer” mark.

Condition

This useful silver tray is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. With a full set of clear English silver hallmarks. The hand engraving still has definition but the central armorial and motto are rubbed from use over the years. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item

Maker Information

Maker: John Tuite

John Tuite was apprenticed to John Matthews of Dublin goldsmiths in 1703 and worked in Dublin from 1710 to 1720 before moving to London in 1723. Tuite specialised in making salvers and had a very distinctive makers mark incorporating a ewer with his initials “IT”. Died 1740.
