Description

A rare piece of antique English provincial silver. A Georgian sterling silver punch ladle with an oval shaped bowl and turned wood handle. Length 34 cms. Bowl 7.7 x 5.8 cms. Stamped inside the bowl with a full set of Exeter hallmarks for 1744. Makers mark stylized “MM” for Micon Melun (see Jacksons, mentioned under Falmouth goldsmiths page 317, Pickford edition).

Condition

This charming silver serving ladle is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. Stamped inside the bowl with a clear set of Exeter hallmarks and makers mark. Minor dinks. The turned wooden handle is in fine condition. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.

Maker: Micon Melun

Micon Melun, Falmouth goldsmith, earliest mention 1720, died in 1757. His work, often stamped only with his stylised makers mark “MM”, sometimes also bears Exeter hallmarks.
