Description

An early English sterling silver salver of unusual shaped square form and raised on shaped feet. This dainty size is often known as a waiter, perfect for standing a wine bottle or glass. To the centre is a hand engraved armorial encircled by a decorative cartouche. Scratchweight to the underside. Weight 275 grams, 8.8 troy ounces. Width 15cm. Height 2.1cm. London 1750. Maker Edward Feline.

This useful antique waiter is in very good condition with no damage. Stamped underneath with a full set of clear English silver hallmarks. The engravings have some wear. Faint mark on the top surface in one corner where the foot is applied.

Edward Feline, apprenticed to Augustin Courtauld 1709, free 1721. First two marks entered as largeworker 1720, third mark 1739. His son Edward was apprenticed to him 1745. Died circa 1753 when his widow Magdalen entered her own mark.
