Description

A good quality antique sterling silver ladle in the popular Old English pattern. Good plain style. Weight 131 grams, 4.2 troy ounces. Length 31 cms. Diameter of bowl 9 cms. London 1782. Maker William Suumner I (mark entered in 1782).

Condition

This useful serving piece is in good condition with no damage or restoration. The bowl is not thin. Marked on the back of the handle with a clear and full set of English silver hallmarks. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.

Maker: William Sumner

William Sumner, flatware maker, was apprenticed under Thomas Chawner. Worked in partnership with Richard Crossley 1775 – 1782 (mark WS/RC). His first mark was entered in 1782. His widow Mary and daughter Elizabeth were also registered as silver spoon makers.
