Description

A rare set of antique silver folding cutlery – knife, fork and spoon. All expertly made to be as compact as possible so that it all fits inside the original tooled leather carrying case. The knife and fork have steel blades.

Each piece has silver hallmarks for Nurnberg circa 1700.
Maker Christoph Hieronymous Clauss.

Literature: Prior to the late 18th century (when sets of table silver started to appear) guests were expected to bring their own cutlery to a meal. Personal eating implements were highly prized.

Condition

This lovely set is in very good condition. All the silver pieces have matching German silver marks. The steel knife and fork blades show a bit of rust. All original, matching and fully functional.
