A rare early English antique silver cruet set with a matching set of 3 silver castors and 2 silver and faceted crystal oil and vinegar bottles. The cinquefoil frame has 4 ball feet. Britannia standard silver*. The first cruet stands had a much simpler design which evolved several years later into the more elaborate Warwick cruet shape with rococo cartouche and shell feet. Total weight of silver 1307 grams, 42 troy ounces. Castors height 16 and 10.5cm. Bottles height 17cm. Height to top of handle 16cm. London 1708. Maker Jacob Margas.
The condiment set is in good used condition with signs of use over the last 300 years. The three casters are fully marked underneath, the tops are unmarked. The stand is marked in the centre at the base of the handle (rubbed marks), the handle is unmarked. The two bottle tops are unmarked as is generally the case at that date. The stand and 3 casters are all by the same maker Jacob Margas. One castor has a clear date letter for 1708, the other date letters, although distorted or rubbed, are likely to be the same or similar date. The large castor has a dent which can be removed on request. The bottles are in good condition, one bottle is slightly smaller than the other, they are both old and likely to be original. One handle extends at a slightly different angle to the other.
