A 19th century Russian beaker having an engraved and niello decoration around the outside. Original interior gilding. Exterior gilding partly worn. Contains 60 ml. Weight 49 grams, 1.5 troy ounces. Height 5.7 cms. Diameter of rim 5.2 cms. With Russian silver hallmarks to the base including makers mark, 84 stamp, date 1844.
Literature: Russian silver fineness is measured in zolotniks and there are 96 zolotniks to the Russian pound. 84 zolotniks corresponds to 875 parts per 1000 silver whereas sterling silver has 925 parts per 1000 silver.
This pretty antique beaker is in good condition with no restoration. The engraving is still crisp. All the Russian silver marks are clear and well struck. There are some small dents around the base and lower side. Original interior gilding. Exterior gilding partly worn. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
