Description
A stunning quality Russian silver coffee jug with excellent deep chased decoration incorporating foliate scrolls and the traditional Russian eagle to the front and reverse sides. The bulbous lid has a distinctive onion form. No expense has been spared with the rich bright gilding which even extends to the inside of the pot and lid.
Contains 1200ml.
Total weight (including wooden handle and lid finial) 724 grams, 23 troy ounces.
Height 26.5 (to top of finial). Spread 21cm.

Russian silver purity is 84 zolotnik equivalent to 875/1000.

Marks. Clearly marked underneath with the St George town mark, maker “A.I” unidentified, hallmark for Alderman Fyoder Petroc (1759-1784), assay masters’ mark “B.A” unidentified (1760-1794) and assay scrapes. Maker’s mark “A.I” to the rim of the lid and further marks (unreadable) to the edge of the foot rim.
Condition
The pot is in very good condition. The gilding is bright and has no wear. The pot has been tested for water retention and does not leak. The handle and lid finial are not original.
