Description
A miniature silver travelling icon with a hand painted face and hands. With the original faded red velvet back. Height 5.5 x width 4.5 cms. Marked with Russian silver stamps, 84 and makers mark. Circa 1900.
Literature: Russian silver fineness is measured in zolotniks and there are 96 zolotniks to the Russian pound. 84 zolotniks corresponds to 875 parts per 1000 silver whereas sterling silver has 926 parts per 1000 silver.
Condition
This rare little Russian icon is in used condition. There are some pin prick holes where it has been polished over the years. The silver corners are a bit raggedy. The velvet back is faded and worn. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
