A good size vintage sterling silver box with plain elegant styling and original wooden lining. The domed solid top retains its original gilt interior. Excellent quality. Engraved to the top is the insignia of The Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and the crest and motto of Royal East Kent Regiment (The Buffs). Length 19.2 cms. Height 6 cms. Width 11.5cms. London 1917. Maker Hewson & Williams.
Literature: The Royal Flying Corps (RFC) was the air arm of the British Army before and during the First World War, until it merged with the Royal Naval Air Service on 1 April 1918 to form the Royal Air Force.
The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment), formerly the 3rd Regiment of Foot, was a line infantry regiment of the British Army. It had a history dating back to 1572 and was one of the oldest regiments in the British Army.
Condition
This handsome silver box is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. The silver marks are matching, clear and easy to read. The hinge closes well.
