A set of twelve antique silver musicians, each with a different instrument. Good size and weight. Beautifully modelled with jewelled bodies and bases. Traces of the original gilding. Total weight 1305 grams, 41.9 troy ounces. Height of each musician 11-12 cm. Stamped on the rear side of each base with German silver marks. Circa 1890.
Signed/Inscribed: German silver marks. Pre 1888 antique German silver was based on different town mark symbols and the silver fineness was indicated in “loth” (12 loth = 750/1000, 13 loth = 875/1000, 15 loth = 937/1000). In 1888 the ‘crescent moon and crown’ marks were adopted together with the fineness of silver usually “800” = 800/1000. This system is still in use today.
These well crafted figures are in very good condition with no damage or restoration. Each is stamped with German silver marks. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
