Description

Condition

This impressive antique silver box is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. The cast border and engraved decoration is crisp. The hinge is good and the box closes tightly. The interior retains the original gilding. Stamped on both pieces with a full set of clear and matching English silver hallmarks. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.

Maker: John Reily

John Reily, no record of apprenticeship or freedom. 1sr mark as Riley, in partnership with Mary Hyde as smallworkers 1799. Subsequently he married Mary and his 2nd mark 1801 as smallworker appears alone. 3rd mark 1802. 4th mark (2 sizes) 1805. 5th mark 1823. Buried 15 May 1826. His widow’s and son’s joint mark entered 31 May 1826.
