Description
A good quality 19th century silver incense burner with part gilt finish. The hinged lid is pierced and has a decorative finial. The body has unusual hand engraving of mythological figures on a flower and foliate background.
Weight 372 grams, 11.9 troy ounces.
Height 18 cm. Diameter of base 8.4 cm.
Stamped with tughra and sahh marks, and assay scrapes.
Tughra of Sultan Abdulmejid I (1839-1861)

Signed/Inscribed: A tughra (Ottoman Turkish: طغرا, romanized: ṭuġrā) is a calligraphic monogram, seal or signature of a sultan that was affixed to all official documents and correspondence. It was also carved on his seal and stamped on the coins minted during his reign.
Condition
This attractive silver box is in very good condition. Marked with tughra and sahh marks to main section and lid front, base plate sections and column, assay scrape to front of body and lid, inside of base section and underneath base plate. The finial seemingly unmarked. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
