A rare early English silver porringer having 2 side handles and belly shape. Lovely original hand beaten finish. Good gauge silver. Excellent colour.

Marks. Stamped underneath with a full set of clear silver English silver hallmarks. Lack of definition to some edges. The maker “A.L” with stars – see Jacksons page 128.

Signed/Inscribed: It’s very rare for a maker’s mark of this period to have a name associated with it.There are no precise records of silver makers marks prior to 1681 as all records were destroyed in the fire at Goldsmiths Hall in that year when the Assay Office and apartments of the Assayer and Clerk in the south west wing of the building were burned down.

This charming silver cup is in very good condition. Excellent colour and hand beaten finish. There are marks on the inside where the tops of the handles have pushed through a little.
