Description
A rare example of early Dutch provincial silver. A beautiful antique silver beaker of tall tapering form with a flared rim. Good size and excellent gauge silver. The cup is hand engraved with a strapwork border and fine quality foliate scroll decoration interspersed with flower heads and fruit clusters. The base is scratch engraved with owner’s initials and possibly a date “A.1628”.

Date 1618.
Marks. Stamped underneath with the Dutch town mark for Breda and the date letter “P” for 1618. Assay scrape mark to the base. We have the dated the beaker using the images supplied from the Breda silver museum book. They have a similar beaker dated 1610.

This lovely beaker is in very good condition with crisp engraving.
