An early set of 3 antique sterling silver castors with pierced removable tops. Classic plain style. Each with a hand engraved crest of a dragon to the front.
Weight 618 grams, 19.8 troy ounces.
Tall castor – height 17.9 cm.
Pair of smaller castors – height 14.7 cm.
All matching. London 1726.
Maker Samuel Wood.
Condition
The silver castors are in very good condition. Each is stamped underneath the body with a full set of English silver hallmarks, the tops with lion and makers marks. All matching. There are a few very minor dinks.Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.

Maker: Samuel Welder
Samuel Welder, London silversmith, apprenticed to Robert Keble in 1707, free 1714. 1st mark entered as largeworker 1714, 2nd mark 1717, 3rd (sterling mark) 1720, 4th mark 1729. Welder was a specialist caster maker of the period. Welder’s mark is sometimes confused with Samuel Woods’ mark (also a specialist caster maker). Although similar in appearance Wood’s 1st mark wasn’t entered until 1730.
