Description

A good pair of early English sterling silver salvers of square form raised on shaped feet. This dainty size is often known as a waiter, perfect for standing a wine bottle or glass. To the centre each has a hand engraved crest within a diamond cartouche. Good colour. Scratch weight below. Weight 470 grams, 15.1 troy ounces. Width 14 cm. Height 2 cm. London 1731. Maker Francis Nelme.

Literature: Salvers with plain flat surfaces and small feet at the edge are rarely found before the reign of George I. The term “waiter” is not commonly used but relates to small examples less than 6 or 7 inches.

These useful antique waiters are in very good condition with no damage or restoration. Stamped underneath with a full set of clear English silver hallmarks The crest engravings still have good definition with a small amount of wear. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
