The silver tankard is in very good condition. Good gauge metal and sturdy construction. The lid has some minor dinks.

Maker: John Carter II
John Carter, London silversmith, no record of apprenticeship or freedom. 1st mark entered 1776 although records show that he was already supplying candlesticks to Parker & Wakelin by 1769. 2nd mark entered 1776 , the same day as the mark of Richard Carter and Robert Makepiece was entered at the same address. Although recorded as both goldsmith and manufacturer of large plate Carters main specialisation was on candlesticks and salvers.
