Description

An excellent pair of antique silver candle holders by the well regarded Huguenot maker John Jacob. On squared bases with shell corners and having wrythen stems and detachable sconces. Each with the crest of a lion.

Height 24 cms/9.5 inches. Base width 13 cms/5 inches square.
Weight 1428 grams, 45.9 troy ounces.

John Jacob, London silversmith, no record of apprenticeship or freedom. Huguenot. 1st mark entered as largeworker 1734. 2nd mark 1739. Married Anne, daughter of Augustin Courtauld. His work includes a fine pair of candlesticks in the Ashmolean Museum and many good quality rococo baskets, candlesticks and hollowware.
