Description

A charming antique sterling silver jug with slender helmet shape, sweeping handle and square foot. Fine engraved detail with bright cut borders, trails of ribbons and scrolls, and a vacant cartouche to the front. Excellent condition. Contains 145 ml. Weight 136 grams, 4.3 troy ounces. Height 15.5 (to top of handle). Spread 11 cms. London 1790. Maker George Smith II.

Condition

This pretty jug is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. The engraving is crisp and fine quality. The silver marks are clear and easy to read. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.

Maker: George Smith II

George Smith II, apprenticed to William Aldridge 1750, free 1758. 1st mark entered as smallworker undated, before 7 August 1758. 2nd mark as smallworker 1767. 3rd mark 1771. 9 marks as bucklemaker. 13th mark in partnership with Thomas Hayter as plateworkers 1792. Probably died between 1802 and 1811.
